Each year Glenside Rotary awards 10 local middle school students with a Service Above Self Award, that includes a small stipend. Students along with the faculty member or counselor who recommended them, and their parents are invited to one of the club meetings. We have an amazing group of young people who are an inspiration and we look forward to hearing more about their accomplishments in the future.
Once again, working with the Cheltenham township school district, Glenside Rotary put together and distributed 75 Thanksgiving baskets to families in Cheltenham township. Local schools collected food, and the Rotary purchased frozen turkeys to distribute. Both Arcadia University and Manor College Rotaractors, as well as students from Wyncote Academy, helped with this project.
Working in partnership with Chestnut Hill Rotary, Glenside Rotary obtained Allstate and Gundaker Foundation grants and conducted fundraisers to be able to purchase and install a playground at Gaudenzia House, which is a residential rehabilitation facility that allows mothers to keep up to two children with them during their time in the facility. Gaudenzia has had a higher success rate by allowing the moms to have their children nearby, and we were happy to provide an environment that will make this a more positive experience for all involved. Chestnut Hill Rotary focused on building a pergola and putting in gardens, while Glenside Rotary concentrated on cutting grass and cleaning up the yard, painting the see-saws and slides that were in the yard and installing a beautiful new playground. We were helped by the Arcadia University Rotaractors, and Rotary Exchange Student Alex from Brazil.
