Thanks to all the volunteers who helped with the 2018 Postal Workers Food Drive. Rotarians Norma (and husband Ralph), Connie (and husband Rod), Pat (and husband Joe) helped out at Fort Washington. The enjoyed working with the other volunteers from Glenside Knights of Columbus, and from Fingers Wings & Other Things in Plymouth Meeting. President Norma took two hours to go help unload food at New Life Presbyterian Church for their Food Cupboard.
Thanks to club master painter Lyn, Bob and Dottie, Pat and Joe, Norma and Ralph for a fun, colorful morning repainting the conference room at Glenside Library for Rotary at Work Day. Also, sincere thanks to Lewis Paints in Glenside for sponsoring the event and donating the paint. Josie was joined by her proud parents, brother, grandmother. and 6th grade teacher as she received the Glenside Rotary "Service Above Self" Award. Kudos to Arcadia University Rotaract Club, Knight's Tales (Book Club), and other campus organizations who helped make this event such a success. Sagan from Abington Junior High School was selected by Counselor Melissa Brizell to receive the Club's Student of the Month Award for March, because of Sagan's dedicated service at the school as well as her leadership. The club was happy to also have Sagan's mom present for the award. Congratulations, and we look for great things from you in the future!
On Friday, December 8 Glenside Rotary honored their first "Most Improved Student" as Student of the Month. Jack, an 8th grader at St. Joseph the Protector School was acknowledged by his teacher for this positive attitude and commitment to his work. Several club members are alumni of St. Luke the Evangelist - the previous version of the school. Once again, with the aid of Wyncote Academy Interactors (who received their RI charter at the beginning of the event), Manor College Rotaract Club, Knights of Columbus and some other friends, the Glenside Rotary Club put together and distributed 75 Thanksgiving Baskets, along with a 5# bag of potatoes and a frozen turkey for each basket. Baskets were dropped off for families in Cheltenham Township, who were identified by the Cheltenham School District Social worker. As always, everyone (especially the Wyncote Academy students) worked very hard and had the packages together in less than an hour. Congratulations to Steve Vahey, who once again ran this like a well-oiled machine, and thank you to all our volunteers. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving. On Nov 8 at 1 pm the Glenside Rotary Club presented a new bookbin for the children's section to the Glenside Library. Grant funding for this was obtained from the Rotary District 7450 Gundaker Foundation, and the Glenside Rotary is working to collect matching donations through its Honeybaked Ham fundraiser . 20% of all gift cards purchased through that link will be donated to the Library to update its collection of technical, science, and medical books. |
